FCA Free Carrier

FCA, or Free Carrier, means Party A delivers the goods to a carrier or another person nominated by Party B at the named place. Party A usually handles export clearance, while Party B arranges the main transportation, import clearance, duties, taxes and final delivery.

Party Definition

For this FCA trade term page, the parties are defined as follows:

Party A (Manufacturer / Seller) Aqvia Bath is Party A when supplying bathroom products. Party A prepares the goods, handles export clearance and delivers the goods to the named carrier or agreed place.
Party B (Buyer / Purchaser) Party B is the buyer, importer, distributor, dealer or project purchaser. Party B nominates the carrier and handles main transportation, import clearance, duties, taxes and destination-side costs.

Responsibility Summary

Under FCA, Party A’s responsibility ends when the goods are delivered to the carrier or agreed party at the named place. Risk usually transfers to Party B at that delivery point.

Import Clearance Not responsible for import clearance at destination. Responsible for import clearance, duties, taxes and local charges.
Final Delivery Not responsible for final destination delivery unless agreed in writing. Arrange destination handling, inland transport and final delivery.

Party A Responsibilities

If the named place is Party A’s factory or warehouse, Party A usually loads the goods onto the collecting vehicle. If the named place is another location, unloading responsibility should be confirmed clearly before shipment.

Party B Responsibilities

Nominate the carrier, forwarder or receiving party.

Bear cargo risk after goods are delivered to the carrier or agreed party at the named place.

Arrange and pay for main transportation, freight and insurance if needed.

Handle import customs clearance, duties, taxes and destination compliance requirements.

When FCA Is Suitable

FCA is usually suitable when Party B has a forwarder or carrier and wants Party A to handle export clearance and deliver the goods to a named handover point.

FCA is often more practical than EXW when export clearance needs to be handled by Party A. If Party B wants Party A to arrange main freight, CPT, CIP, CFR or CIF may be discussed depending on the shipment method.
